RUNNING 1,200 miles from Lands End to John O'Groats is an incredible feat.

But imagine doing it entirely alone and with no back-up team to help if things go wrong.

That's what gutsy Carole Loader of Willow Mead Road Throop has challenged herself to do to raise money for two good causes.

Sports-mad Carole, 41, hopes to raise thousands for Cancer Research and the Paul Seal Trust Fund which helps a surfer paralysed from the neck down in a surfing accident.

Carole, a job client service manager at JP Morgan, starts the challenge on April 26 and believes it will take her around 10 weeks to complete.

She said: "I am someone who has always set myself little challenges. People have been saying I'm mad or insane but I just think you've only got one chance in life.

"I am doing this entirely unsupported. There will be no luxury of a back-up team to follow me and make me nice cups of tea. I think that's the maddest part of it," she joked.

Part of Carole's training for her challenge will be running the London Marathon on April 13 this year.

Carole, a member of Bournemouth Joggers, will carry everything she needs on her back except for some items such as trainers and maps which are being sent ahead to various B&Bs she is staying in.

The main risks during the run are "injury" and the dangers of running through lonely and desolate places alone she says.

"Obviously I am on my own. That's one of the high risks which is why I'm not publicising which road I'm taking. I am not going to take any stupid risks. It is sad that's the case but that's life.

"Injury is my worst fear and the weather. I've been pretty lucky up to now that I've been injury-free. But I am anaemic and need to take iron pills so I may rattle a bit," she joked.

During her run Carole will be aided by GPS - a global positioning system which can tell her which way to go even in the middle of the countryside.

It will also aid rescue organisations in locating her should she suffer injury in the middle of nowhere, she added.

Carole has worked out she will burn around 100 calories for every mile and around 2,500 calories per day meaning she will need to scoff around 4,000 calories each day to keep up her normal body weight.

She has set up a website and will add regular diary updates and photos of her journey at endtoendrunner.blogspot.com which has information and direct links to her fundraising site at justgiving.com/endtoendrunner
