AN INVESTIGATION has been launched by police after a 12-year-old girl was knocked off her bike in a hit-and-run crash on the way to school.
The child was riding to her school in Bournemouth with her father on Friday, September 16, when she was involved in the collision with a car.
The crash took place at the Cooper Dean roundabout and police enquiries are ongoing.
The girl's father told the Daily Echo: "We were waiting at the roundabout for the light to go green, and when the green cycle light flashed, my daughter went to ride across and a car out of no where side-swiped her.
"It hit her handle bars and her front tyre and she fell onto the floor. The car sped off so quickly I didn't get time to see the number plate.
"Luckily there were other school girls there who helped my daughter back onto her bike.
"Its really shocking that someone would just drive off."
The incident, which the girl described as "extremely scary", left her "shaken".
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "We received a report at around 8am on Friday 16 September 2022 of a fail-to-stop collision involving a car and a cyclist at the Cooper Dean roundabout in Bournemouth.
"It is reported that the vehicle failed to stop at the scene. Officers attended the scene. Enquiries are ongoing into the incident. No arrests have been made."
