RINGWOOD Carnival’s much-anticipated finale has been cancelled for this evening due to an apparent threat of legal action.
The annual carnival’s fireworks display, which concludes the day’s events, has been cancelled after a threat of legal action was reportedly received against the Carnival Society by a leaseholder issued yesterday.
A spokesperson for Ringwood Carnival said that due to timing, the fireworks couldn’t be relocated.
The spokesperson added: “Naturally, our main concern is the welfare of animals in the vicinity which much take precedent. Thank you to all parties involved in this matter.
“But do not worry. Do not fret. There is so much happening today besides our processions that you won’t know what to do with yourselves.”

This year’s carnival is the first since the pandemic and organisers made the decision to go ahead with the event following Queen Elizabeth II's death last week after liaising with the New Forest District Council and checking government advice.
As is tradition, two parades are set for the festival of fun – one in the afternoon at 2pm and an illuminated evening parade beginning at 7.15pm. The fireworks display was due to take place at 9.30pm.
Organisers from Ringwood Carnival Society have lined up a host of activities, competitions, displays, entertainment, stalls, fairground rides and processions at this year’s extravaganza.
Other festivities include the funfair and stalls at the Bickerley, live entertainment around the town, static car and motorbike displays (including a classic film car display), marching bands, BMX stunt riders and more.
