POLICE closed both lanes of Towngate Bridge in Poole this morning after concerns were raised for the welfare of a woman.
Officers closed the road after receiving a report raising concern for the welfare of a woman at 9.14am on Saturday, September 17.
Police closed the road to engage with the woman and motorists were urged to avoid the area as traffic built up.
One witness said traffic was “very heavy” around The George roundabout as police dealt with the incident.
The woman was brought to safety at around 10.45am and the road closures were lifted.

A South Western Railway spokesperson said: "Due to trespass on the railway at Poole the line is blocked.
"Train services running through this station may be delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until 11:30.
"Whilst our teams assist the individual to a place of safety, the line through the station is currently blocked."
A Dorset Police spokeswoman said: “Dorset Police received a report at 9.14am on Saturday 17 September 2022 raising concern for the welfare of a woman on Towngate Bridge in Poole.
“Officers attended and road closures were put in place as we responded to the incident and efforts were made to engage with the woman.
"The woman was brought to safety at around 10.45am and the road closures were lifted.
"We would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures were in place."
