MOTORISTS are being warned of upcoming delays as morning and afternoon lane closures lasting five days are planned for a busy stretch of road in Poole.
Every day from 9.30am to 3pm on October 3 to 7, one lane on alternating carriageways on Ringwood Road (A3049) in Poole between the Alderney and Mountbatten roundabouts will be closed.
This is part of the proposed series of walking and cycling improvements for Ringwood Road from Hunt Road to Mountbatten Roundabout, forming part of the Transforming Cities Fund programme for a 27km sustainable travel route between Poole town centre to Ferndown and Wimborne.
While situated less than half a mile from one another, the roads between the Alderney and Mountbatten roundabouts are generally congested at peak times.
The upcoming daytime closures are for “site investigation work” as part of the proposed transformation, as well as general maintenance.
A BCP Council spokesperson said: “Delays are expected. Please allow extra time for your journeys.
“The closure is needed for site investigation work for proposed sustainable travel improvements planned in the area. Cleaning of drains and gullies will also be undertaken.”
Travel work and changes proposed for this stretch includes:
- A new two-way protected cycle track on the eastern side of Ringwood Road between Alderney Avenue and Mountbatten roundabout
- All approaches to Alderney roundabout to be reduced from three lanes to two
- A new toucan crossing point to be installed near Loewy Crescent
- Speed limit to be reduced from 40mph to 30mph between Alderney roundabout to Mountbatten roundabout
- The shared path on the western side of the road would connect to existing subway facilities and link up to and around Mountbatten roundabout
- A two-way cycle track on eastern side of Ringwood Road to connect into existing shared path and improvements underway as part of the nearby Wallisdown Road scheme
- Five bus stop locations to be upgraded along route
The introduction of proposed restrictions and speed limit reductions, bus lanes, cycle lanes and crossings are subject to the outcome of a separate legal process. BCP Council invited comments on the proposed Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) earlier in this year and are currently reviewing the responses.
