A woman has died following an early morning fire at a property in Weymouth.
Police received reports of a fire at an address in Devon Road at 4.25am this morning (Tuesday, September 27)
An investigation into the cause of the fire, which is believed to be accidental, is underway.
Firefighters from both Weymouth and Portland fire station attended the incident and found a well-developed fire on the ground floor of the property.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "Officers attended, along with the fire and ambulance services, and very sadly a woman died at the scene.
"Her family has been informed and our thoughts are with them at this time.
"Officers are continuing to liaise with the fire service and an investigation is ongoing to establish the cause of the fire, which is believed to have been started accidentally.
"A cordon has been put in place to allow for an examination of the scene to be carried out."
A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters were called at 4.21am this morning, to reports of a property fire in Devon Road, Weymouth.
"Two crews from Weymouth and one from Portland attended the incident and found a well-developed fire in the ground floor of the property.
"Firefighters rescued one casualty from the property, who very sadly died at the scene.
"Crews used six sets of breathing apparatus and three hose reels to extinguish the fire.
"Colleagues from Dorset Police and South West Ambulance Service also attended this incident."
A joint investigation with Dorset Police, into the cause of the fire, has now begun.”
