A CYCLIST from Poole has been airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a crash with a lorry.
The male cyclist, an 18-year-old local to the area, was airlifted by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital this afternoon after a crash with a lorry in St Osmund’s Road.
The injuries are described as “serious and potentially life-threatening head injuries” and the victim’s next of kin has been informed.
A road closure remains in place as officers investigate the scene. No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.
One concerned resident said: “There needs to be speed bumps on this road. There are so many cars which come down here quickly it’s dangerous – especially because there is a school just up the road.”
Another added: “Pray he is going to be OK.”
Police said the flatbed lorry, driven by a man, is registered to a company in Wolverhampton.
Police were called to the incident at 2.51pm on Tuesday, September 27 and are appealing for witnesses or anybody with dashcam footage to come forward.
A Dorset Police spokesperson said: “We received a report at 2.51pm of a collision in St Osmund’s Road in Poole involving a lorry and a bicycle.
“Officers attended and road closures have been put in place.
“The male cyclist is being treated by the ambulance service.”
