A ROAD closure causing traffic delays into Christchurch town centre will remain in place for all of this week.
Emergency gas works in Barrack Road were due to be completed by Friday, September 30.
However, SGN confirmed last week that the work would be continuing into this week due to the complex nature of the project.
The A35 Barrack Road has been closed eastbound from the Stour Road traffic lights to Fountain Roundabout.
Traffic trying to get through the town centre from Barrack Road has been diverted via Bargates.
A spokeswoman for SGN said: “Our engineers are continuing emergency work in Barrack Road.
“Due to the complexity of the work, our project is taking longer than expected and we now hope to have completed this essential work by October 9.
“Traffic management that’s currently in place will remain until our work is complete.”
A BCP Council spokesperson said: “SGN has requested an extension of the eastbound closure of Barrack Road by Fountain Roundabout until October 10 in order to complete their emergency repairs to the gas network.
“This has been approved by ourselves and SGN has confirmed that they are working to fix the issue as soon as possible.
“We advise you plan your journeys, make use of the diversion route and allow extra travel time while SGN carries out their essential works in the area.’’
