A BCP councillor has joined Just Stop Oil supporters in blocking major roads in London.

Cllr Felicity Rice, who represents Oakdale ward in Poole, joined a large number of protestors - many of whom had glued themselves to the roads - to blockade parts of the capital on Saturday.

Many of those involved in the road blocks were arrested.

Cllr Rice can be seen in videos and photos posted by the group sitting on the tarmac in Edgware Road while people around try and move her fellow campaigners.

The group blocked three major roads in central London causing severe traffic disruption for the eighth day running as they demand the government halts all new oil and gas licenses and consents.

They blocked Edgware Road, Gloucester Place and Station Approach by sitting in the road.

A large number glued themselves to the tarmac, making it more difficult for police officers to remove them.

In a statement to the press from Just Stop Oil, Cllr Rice, 41, said: "The amount of solar energy that reaches the earth every hour, is enough to provide our current global energy requirements for a year.

"The change we need is fairly simple: the government needs to insulate homes and focus on renewable energy.

"What makes tackling climate change and fuel poverty complicated is the fact that current MPs have accepted thousands of pounds in sponsorship from fossil fuel companies.”

A Just Stop Oil spokesperson said: "We will continue in civil resistance because it is the right thing to do, and today, Animal Rebellion will also be non-violently resisting on the streets of London.

"We recognise that the need to end new oil and gas will also require us to transition away from high carbon animal agriculture, and that this must be done while supporting farmers and their communities.”

The actions are timed to coincide with the launch of a new round of oil and gas licensing.

Two spokespeople for the organisation claimed Cllr Rice was one of those arrested as a result of the protest today.

The Daily Echo has attempted to contact Cllr Rice by phone and text.
