The head of Bournemouth West Conservative Association has spoken out after the constituency's MP had the whip suspended.

Conor Burns, MP for Bournemouth West, was sacked from his ministerial position and had the whip suspended following an allegation of serious misconduct.

Mr Burns was asked to leave the government with “immediate effect” on the afternoon of Friday, October 8 following the complaint.

The allegation is understood to relate to an incident at the Conservative party conference.

Chairman of the Bournemouth West Conservative Association, John Beesley said: "As there is currently an ongoing internal Conservative Party process it would not be proper or appropriate for me to prejudice that in any way.

"However, I can say that Conor made contact with me quickly last week to explain what was going on and to tell me, and through me our local members, that he would be cooperating fully with the Party’s process and that he wished and expected to see his name cleared.

"Conor has been a diligent and hard working MP for Bournemouth West over the last 12 years and has made a significant and positive impact on so many people locally over that time. We share his strong desire to see this process concluded swiftly."
