A TOURIST staying at a Bournemouth hotel with his son was left shocked when the ceiling came “crashing down” in his room.
Dave Bishop, who was staying at the Laguna Hotel, in Suffolk Road South, said his 13-year-old autistic son had been left “traumatised” when the roof fell down on the bed.
The ceiling partially collapsed after another guest left a shower over the side of the bath, causing water to flood the floor of the room above.
The guests were offered a full refund by Laguna Hotel and were moved to another room.
Mr Bishop, who was visiting Bournemouth from Clacton-on-Sea, Essex for a holiday, said his son “screamed his head off” before he rushed to the corner of the room.
He added: “I was in my bed, looking at my son then all of a sudden, the ceiling crashed down to the floor.

“The glass sheet on the bedside table smashed as well.
“I didn’t hear any noise from the ceiling before it happened, but when we arrived on Sunday my son pointed out that it didn’t look right.
“As soon as it happened, I opened the door and there was a cleaner outside and I said ‘you’ve got to look at this’.
“It was then arranged we would be sent to another room, which was an outbuilding (about the size of a four-bedroom house) within the premises of Laguna Hotel.”
Mr Bishop said he was offered a voucher at the end of his stay, however he added: “To be honest I won’t be coming back. It has really traumatised my son.”
Gill Gwynne, general manager at Laguna Hotel, said: “We did have an unfortunate incident this week where a ceiling in one of our rooms partially collapsed. This happened as a result of another guest leaving a shower over the side of the bath.
“The room is currently out of use and will be repaired shortly. The guests were immediately moved to another room and they received a full refund for their stay.
“To the best of our knowledge our guests were happy with the resolution offered. Although this was a regrettable incident, we are grateful that no one was injured.”
