A YACHT was found washed up in a Dorset bay after breaking from its mooring during heavy storms.
At 1.53pm on Tuesday, November 1, a Kimmeridge Coastguard team was tasked to Worbarrow Bay to investigate a report of a washed-up yacht in adverse conditions.
The crew was requested by the JRCC (Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre) to ensure that no persons were on board, to try to ascertain whether the boat had broken free of its mooring somewhere, and to make investigations of the vessel that may help to identify the owner.
It was soon determined that nobody was on board and agreement was reached that the yacht had broken from its mooring during intense winds. The team then secured the boat as best as possible.
A Kimmeridge Coastguard spokesperson said: “While on scene, enquiries led to the yacht owner and contact [was] made to provide details to further assist in the recovery of the boat that had been moored up previously in the Portland area.
“Many thanks to Lulworth Army Range wardens for their assistance today.”
