AN ELDERLY woman was in "disbelief" when she discovered her car had been covered in spray paint, with a wing mirror broken off in an "awful" attack.

Vandals spray-painted graffiti on the bonnet, roof, and both door sides of the car belonging to a 79-year-old Christchurch woman.

The attack is believed to have taken place on Monday October 24, between the hours of 11 - 11.30pm at Centenary House, Fairfield, in Bargates.

The woman, who does not want to be identified, was in "total shock" and "disbelief" when she saw her car the morning after the attack on her 79th birthday.

The windscreen wiper had been bent, and the wing mirror had been broken off.

The car was left in her allocated parking space in the private car park of her flat.

On the floor, next to the car, was an empty box of 24 nitrous oxide canisters, and the canisters were discarded along with balloons next to the car.

The victim's daughter was angry when she heard about this "awful" crime, but she is grateful that the "kind" residents in the area have come together to help with the repair of her mother's car.

The victim's daughter said: "This awful incident happened on her birthday, I feel sorry for her.

"This event has caused my mum anxiety, and the police will not come out as there is no CCTV coverage.

"We then went to Priory Garage to enquire about graffiti paint removal and the owner mentioned that the car showroom next door had also been a victim of damage the same evening.

"Luckily the local community rallied round and Kustom Kolors in Christchurch generously removed the spray paint at no cost.

"After ordering a replacement wing mirror, a kind member of the group called round and fitted it for free as well."
