A BUSINESS striving to “help the environment by reselling” items from across the years - Room 1553 is the Trader of the Week.

Lisa Tydeman, from Bournemouth, opened Room 1553 in Ferndown on Saturday, October 22, selling vintage, antique and retro collectables.

Lisa has been in the antique business for eight years, but she has just recently opened her store, something she has "always wanted to do."

Lisa said: "It’s a hobby, something I really enjoy that I’ve managed to turn into a full time job.

"This is something I have always wanted to do, it’s great because the shop is going to help the environment by reselling instead of items going into landfill.

Bournemouth Echo:

"It’s so important to be conscious of the environment nowadays.

"Most furniture and items created now are cheap and lack character, but items made in the past were constructed to last and had a lot of character, and many people still prefer that to purchasing something new that they will have to throw away after a year.

“We have a wide range of customers, even young people are getting back into the 70s and vintage items, it's all coming back into fashion.

"Some of the furniture I sell are really durable, good quality items and the price I am selling them for would back then be considered a complete bargain."

Room 1553 is located inside Basket and Blooms Garden Centre in Ferndown.

Bournemouth Echo:

The opening has been a success, lots of customers have been coming in to have a look around, which Lisa believes is great to see after Covid restricted buyers to shopping online. 

Lisa added: "The opening has gone really well, everyone has been so supportive.

"The garden centre has also been really great, it’s a nice spot to have because people can pop in after looking around the garden centre.

"I think a lot of people like to see things in person especially after covid its nice to be able to actually come out and see something rather than just buying online.

“All the things I sell are really unique and a lot of people seem to like to come in and look around because I sell such a variety of things."

Room 1553 is open seven days a week 10am to 4.30pm and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
