GOALS from Marcus Tavernier, Kieffer Moore and Jaidon Anthony sent Cherries into the World Cup break with a resounding 3-0 Premier League victory over Everton.

The Dorset club held a two-goal lead over Frank Lampard’s Toffees by the interval at Vitality Stadium, before powering to their second win in a week over the Merseysiders in comfortable fashion.

Victory meant the Dorset club have returned 13 points from interim boss Gary O’Neil’s 11 league games at the helm.

Cherries made two changes from the side who started their most recent Premier League game at Leeds United last time out.

Jack Stephens made his first league start for the club in place of the suspended Chris Mepham, while there was also a place for Jordan Zemura at left-back.

Frontman Neal Maupay started for Everton in place of the injured Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

And it was the former Brentford man who had the first chance of the contest for the Toffees with just five minutes gone.

After Demarai Gray’s driven ball across goal was deflected, Maupay fired on the turn from inside the box – his effort flying just over the bar.

Cherries’ first chance came on the counter soon after. Tavernier burst down the right and, after cutting inside, his effort was comfortable for away keeper Jordan Pickford.

Everton then almost criminally conceded from a set-piece with 15 minutes gone. A corner swung to the back post found towering Cherries forward Moore. He nodded against the head of Nathan Patterson before the Blues scrambled away.

But it was goalkeeper error which gifted Cherries an opener with 18 minutes on the clock. Dominic Solanke’s effort from range was spilled by England stopper Pickford, allowing Tavernier to tap into an empty net having reacted first.

And the Dorset club added a second following a melee in the box seven minutes later. After Solanke clashed heads with James Tarkowski, Philip Billing’s effort was parried by Pickford before Moore nodded in under the challenge of Vitali Mykolenko.

Everton were left incensed that the contest should have been stopped following a head injury to Tarkowski, while Mykolenko was forced off after competing with Moore.

The hosts went in search of a third. The ball broke for Stephens after a free-kick from deep – the Southampton loanee cut back for Solanke, who fired just wide of the far post.

The Everton bench was left absolutely fuming shortly before the interval. Maupay’s shout for a penalty was waved away by referee Craig Pawson, before a VAR check for a red card following a strong sliding challenge from Lewis Cook came to nothing.

Pickford then showed his rage when Tavernier went down in the box, with the referee stopping play on this occasion due to a head injury.

Everton could have pulled one back just seconds after the interval. After a strong run from Amadu Onana allowed him to get into the box, the ball fell to Idrissa Gueye to blaze over.

Billing headed wide a cross from the right at the other end, before Onana’s header from a corner ended up on the roof of Cherries’ net.

But the game was wrapped up as a contest with just more than 20 minutes left. After a foul on the left-hand side, Lewis Cook’s whipped ball in found an unmarked Anthony to head in after coming off the bench.
