SO as 636 fossil fuel delegates at COP 27 outnumber delegations from African countries and indigenous communities, and as the big global car-makers rush to make even more unsustainable products, do we have any confidence that leadership is really trying to limit the appalling damage being done to our only home?

Despite denialist comments in the media the situation is far beyond a few tweaks of policy.

Rishi may be talking greener but the environmental leadership needed should be also seriously challenging the way we have normalised destruction.

Landfill and incineration should be a thing of the past. Repairing, reusing and repurposing a normal way of life.

Whole industries must be scrutinised. We can choose to change or be forced to change as nature bites back.

But Covid forced us all to behave differently and if we want a future worth having we must respect planetary boundaries, support the natural world and reduce the carbon overload which is threatening us all.

We could all help if we were brought up-to-date with the true facts about our prospects. But we need to be directed and incentivised by leadership.
