A £2,500 fibre splicer was stolen from a van after a man was reportedly “doing the rounds” in Poole

CCTV shows a man walking around the Alder Hills area attempting to break-in to vehicles.

Richard Swift had a £2,500 fibre splicer, which is used to connect fibre broadband to houses, stolen from his van parked in Stalham Road in the early hours of Friday, November 4.

He said: “I always park my van on the driveway and I’ve never had any problems living on the cul-de-sac.

“I got up one morning and went to unlock the van and saw everything had been thrown about – then I realised it had gone.

“I did some chasing around and got some CCTV from our road and saw that he had been at it for a while.

“He didn’t seem to take anything else which I thought was a bit bizarre. When I finished work, I went to the road behind, Holt Road, because there is a path leading through.

“I found a nice guy who said he had a camera and we watched it on his phone and saw this activity at four in the morning and there he is, checking this guy’s van out too.”

Richard added the man who was “doing the rounds” and hopes somebody will recognise him and he will subsequently have his fibre splicer returned.

“There was no damage but you can see the locks being twisted and turned,” he added, “but the fibre splicer won’t be of any use to him; it’s password protected.”

A Dorset Police spokeswoman said: “It is reported that at around 1am on Friday 4 November 2022 entry was gained to a vehicle that was parked in Stalham Road in Poole.

“Enquiries are ongoing into the report. No arrests have been made.”
