THE wait is almost over for what is likely to go down as one of the most controversial major sporting events in decades.
The men’s football World Cup in Qatar kicks off on Sunday, November 20, with the host nation facing Ecuador.
The 22nd FIFA World Cup is the first to take place in the Middle East.
Gareth Southgate’s England side launch their campaign on Monday afternoon against Iran before group B rivals Wales begin their first appearance at the finals since 1958 when they take on the United States of America.
The packed tournament schedule sees 64 matches take place over just 29 days.
There is unlikely to be the usual packed beer gardens and fan parks across the UK given that the tournament is the first World Cup to take place during winter.
However, a number of pubs and bars in Bournemouth town centre are preparing to give fans a feast of football in the run up to Christmas.

Some bars require pre-booking, with limited available already reported for England’s group matches. It is advised to contact venues directly to check if they have space.
