MULTIPLE fire crews attended a fire at a school in Dorset as pupils and staff were been evacuated. 

A fire was reported in the kitchen of Beaucroft Foundation School in Wimborne Road, Wimborne, on Monday, November 21. 

A spokeswoman for the school said nobody was injured by the fire, which caused “significant smoke damage” to the teaching kitchen where it took place. 

Diane Makariou, co-headteacher at Beaucroft Foundation School, said: “I can confirm that a fire broke out today in the school’s Senior Food Technology kitchen.  

“Emergency services were called and arrived very quickly. No students or staff were injured/involved and our fire plan worked well.

“There appears to have been some significant smoke damage to the teaching kitchen, but we are waiting for an assessment from the insurers to know the full extent of this, before we can make plans for the next steps. 

A spokeswoman for DWFRS said: “We were called to a school on Wimborne Road, Colehill at 1.04pm this afternoon for a fire in the kitchen.  

“Four crews are in attendance, from Wimborne (x2), Ferndown and Redhill Park.  

“It seems the affected kitchen is in a separate block to the main school, there has been an evacuation and everyone has been accounted for. 

“The stop was at 2.10pm, four breathing apparatus wearers used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.  

“We just have one crew from Wimborne still on scene, supporting the fire investigator.”
