Ringwood businesses have expressed their delight at the early end of the A31 roadworks, as they look to make the most of a busy Christmas period.

Businesses have been forced to get creative in how they have coped with reduced footfall in the town, including expanding online offerings, home visits and pop-up shops. Some businesses have reported sales being down by up to 30 per cent.

The town’s Mayor, Gareth De Boos, said: “It’s fantastic to see our wonderful town accessible again.

“We hope those customers who avoided us (quite understandably) will return and shop with us again. Now, more than ever, is the time to support local businesses.”

The town has seen a number of new businesses open their doors in the past year, despite the disruption since the roadworks began in January 2022. It is a popular location for both independent shops, and for national brands.

With Grace, a new gift and silk flower store, was opened by Emma Betsy on November 5.

She said: “Ringwood is my hometown. I’ve always wanted to open a shop here as it’s such a vibrant market town with a great vibe. I know the roadworks have caused hardship for many and I can’t wait for our customers to enjoy a stress-free and enchanting Christmas with us.”

Many are looking forward to a busy Christmas period for the town, with free parking being provided to encourage shoppers to visit.

Owner of Ringwood Fabrics, Angela Cork, said, “Ringwood businesses are delighted to have the slip road open again.

“We are now looking forward to welcoming back our customers into our physical store, just in time for Christmas.”

The annual Christmas Window Competition is to be launched soon by the Ringwood Town Council, as over 30 businesses will compete for the best Christmas window display.

The Christmas Light Switch On will take place on November 27 and will be a big community event for the town, with over 60 market stalls, a small fairground and two Santa parades before the lights are turned on at 6pm.
