A MAN has been put behind bars for assaulting a man and stealing their mobile phone at Boscombe Pier in an “unprovoked attack”.
Gary Lee Thompson, aged 42, appeared in the dock at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, November 30 in relation to the incident which took place on July 29.
Thompson, whose address was given as Terrace Road, Bournemouth, pleaded guilty to charges of assault by beating and theft.
The defendant was committed to prison for a total of eight months by a deputy district judge.
He was also ordered to pay a £187 surcharge and £85 costs.
Court papers the offending was considered serious because it was an “unprovoked attack causing maximum fear and distress”.
