RAIL passengers travelling to Bournemouth will face disruption until the end of the day.
A fault with the electric third rail at Sway means the line towards Bournemouth is blocked.
There have been issues since this morning with train services running through the station cancelled, delayed or revised as a result.
Disruption is now expected until the end of the day, South Western Railway said.
Replacement bus services are running in both directions between Southampton and Bournemouth and Weymouth and Bournemouth.
A South Western Railway spokesperson said: “We have been informed that there is a problem with the electric third rail in the Sway area.
"This means that the line towards Bournemouth is currently blocked. Network Rail engineers have identified the problem and are currently working to resolve the issue.
“We have arranged replacement buses to run between Southampton and Bournemouth & Weymouth and Bournemouth in both directions, calling at all stations.”
South Western Railway said tickets will be accepted on the following services at no extra cost:
- GWR between Weymouth and Yeovil
- Morebus 1, 1a, 1b, X1 and X2, in the Bournemouth area
- First Buses 10 & X54, in the Weymouth area
The spokesperson added: “For further information or onward travel advice please speak to a member of staff or use a station help point.
"We are very sorry for any delay that this may cause to your journey.”
