A MAN has been jailed after he was caught drink driving in an HGV on a motorway.
Nigel Alan Reed was more than double the legal limit for alcohol when he was at the wheel of the Man Truck.
Reed, whose address was given as Apple Tree Road, Alderholt, committed the offence on May 12, 2021, on the M5 northbound junction 4A at Bromsgrove.
Court papers stated the 64-year-old provided a sample with 94 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit is 35 micrograms.
Reed pleaded guilty to a single charge of drink driving when he appeared in the dock at Poole Magistrates’ Court on December 7.
The defendant, who also admitted failing to comply with a community order made on July 14 by failing to attend probation appointments, was committed to prison for two months.
Magistrates considered the offence to be serious because he was a professional driver operating an HGV and the high reading of alcohol.
Reed was disqualified from driving for 29 months and ordered to pay a £128 surcharge.
