POOLE Lifting Bridge was closed to vehicles while emergency repairs were carried out on Thursday.
As a result, the bridge was closed to vehicles for safety reasons but reopened on Friday.
Gary Powell, head of traffic management, BCP Council: “We will be carrying out emergency carriageway repairs to Poole Lifting Bridge today (15 December).
“For safety reasons this requires the bridge to be closed to vehicles.
“Access for pedestrians or bicycles will be maintained and the bridge will continue to operate on its usual lifting schedule.
“While closed we will also be taking the opportunity to also carry out routine bridge maintenance works.”
According to a traffic notice on the One Network website, the emergency road closure will be in place until December 17.
Mr Powell added: “We advise people travelling between Hamworthy and Poole Town to allow extra time for your journeys during this period and make use of the signed diversion route via Twin Sails Bridge.”
Morebus said routes 8 and 9 will run via the Twin Sails and not serve Ivor Road, Carters Quay or Dee Way during this time.
Route 60 will continue to serve Norton Way.
