A much-loved lollipop man has retired for the second time, aged 89.
Wilf Freeman took up the post outside Bournemouth School for Girls (BSG) 29 years ago when he retired and served his final day on Friday.
He said that the pupils have been well behaved throughout his time, and that he’s had no problems.
“That was why I stayed for so long,” Wilf said.
He said that his daughters will have things to keep him occupied in his retirement.
BSG headteacher, David Sims, paid tribute to the longstanding lollipop man.
“He’s a BSG legend,” Mr Sims said.
“He’s stood out on Castle Lane for the best part of 30 years, so pretty much the whole time I’ve been teaching. Rain or shine, he’s looked after our students.
“He’s always a friendly face, always got a smile on his face and always got something great to say to us and brightens up our day.”
The school said goodbye to Wilf on Friday. Mr Sims said he will be missed by the whole school community.
“He’s very much a fixture of the school, and we’ll be really sad to say goodbye to him,” Mr Sims said.
“I think there’ll be a few tears.”
