RESTAURANT Roots in Southbourne has been named in the Good Food Guide 2023.

The European restaurant made it to the prestigious food bible, which is rewritten each year following feedback from readers and anonymous inspections.

Owners Jan and Stacey Bretschneider are said to be ‘thrilled’ to have Roots recognised in this year’s guide.

Jan said: “To be included in it and be put on par with some of the best restaurants in the country is fantastic.”

The Good Food Guide was founded in 1951 and remains one of the most trusted guides to dining out in Great Britain.

To be featured, the establishment must be nominated by readers, and then given the thumbs up by an inspector.

It is not the first time that Roots has been featured in the guide.

Jan said: “We are always thrilled to be included in the Good Food Guide because it’s a reader’s guide. Essentially what that means is you’re not guaranteed to be in just because you’ve been in the guide the year before.

“It means the customers, who are actually sitting in the restaurant, have to go out of their way to contact the Good Food Guide and say they had a fantastic experience and it’s worth checking out.

“Enough of our customers had to do that on their own account for inspectors to come out.

"So, for me, its one of my favourite guides, because it’s the customer that starts the process.”

Roots is found in Belle Vue Road in Southbourne.
