TWO roads outside schools in Bournemouth and Poole are to close in the new year as the council trail prioritising children’s health and safety.
Temporary traffic restrictions will be brought in the new year outside Oakdale Junior School in Poole and Pokesdown Community Junior School in Bournemouth as part of BCP’s School Streets.
School Streets is an initiative by the council which restricts access to traffic and parking immediately outside schools during drop-off and pick-up times.
Councillor Mike Greene, portfolio holder for sustainability and transport, said: “We can confirm that we are currently engaging with ward councillors, residents and the schools, and will be looking to operate two new trial School Streets at Oakdale Junior School in Poole and Pokesdown Community Junior School in Bournemouth early next year.
“Residents’ access and parking is not affected, and blue badge holders will also be accommodated.
“During these trials we will be eager to gather the views of parents, carers and local residents and will encourage them take part in an online engagement survey once they have experienced the changes.
“We will provide more detail on this process next year.”
Cllr Greene said the initiative will create a “safer and healthier” environment for children commuting to school.
We approached both schools for a comment.
