SEVERAL flood alerts have been issued for parts of Dorset, including at Bournemouth beach and Christchurch and Poole harbours.
A number of flood alerts are currently in force for areas of the county due to rising sea tide and river levels.
Flood alerts have been issued for the following:
- East coast of Dorset – includes Castletown, Weymouth, Preston Beach, Swanage Bay, Studland Bay, Sandbanks, Poole Harbour, Bournemouth Beach, Hengistbury Head and Christchurch Harbour
- Lower Avon – includes tributaries between Ringwood and Christchurch
- River Piddle – includes tributaries between Alton Pancras and Wareham
- Lower Frome – includes tributaries between Dorchester and Wareham
An Environment Agency spokesperson said: “Wednesday morning's tide [was] is higher than normal due to unsettled weather with southerly force 7 winds and large waves.
“After this tide‚ the weather is more settled and no further impacts are expected. We will continue to monitor the forecast and re-issue this alert if necessary. Plan driving routes to coastal roads, which may be flooded.
“Please be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous.
They added: “Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water.”
