A COASTGUARD search was carried out after reports of a red flare sighting in Poole.

Poole Coastguard Recue Team responded to reports of a flare being launched at Holes Bay at 8pm on Saturday, December 31.

The report came from a member of the public who made a 999 call.

A spokesperson for Poole Coastguard Rescue Team said: “After arriving on scene, the FIF (First Informant) had unfortunately left the scene.

“The OIC (officer in charge) coordinated with the JRCC and then the team carried out a foot and vehicular search.

“On completing the searches of the surrounding areas, nothing untoward was found.

“With no other sightings reported to HM Coastguard or any other emergency service.”

The callout was the team’s final incident of 2022 in what was described as “another busy year”.
