MOTORISTS are set for further delays as emergency works continue in Christchurch town centre.
The A35 Barrack Road remains closed between its junctions with Stour Road and the Fountain Roundabout following a gas leak last week.
SGN say it is ‘too early to say’ how long the works will take to complete.
It’s the third time Barrack Road has been impacted by emergency repairs and roadworks in the past seven months.
On Friday, a spokesperson for the gas company said: “Our engineers are working to urgently fix a section of our network along the A35 Barrack Road, between its junctions with Stour Road and the Fountain Roundabout.
“A signed diversion via Stour Road and Fairmile Road is in place for affected motorists. We’ve installed temporary traffic lights at the Stour Road and Fairmile Road junction to manage traffic flow at this location.
“There’s also no access to A35 Barrack Road from Twynham Avenue while we carry out this repair.
“It’s too early to say how long this essential repair work will take to complete. We appreciate roadworks can be frustrating and would like to thank road users for their understanding while we complete this essential work to ensure the Christchurch community continues to receive a safe and reliable supply of gas.”
