A 5FT Chinese temple birdhouse and a set of 18 carat gold false teeth are among the weird and wonderful items left behind at Travelodge hotels in Bournemouth.

The budget hotel chain has revealed a list of some of the more unusual belongings guests left behind at three of its hotels in Bournemouth in 2022.

Other quirky items include a Yamaha Sea Scooter, a 5ft pink fluffy flamingo and two striped deckchairs.

A remote-controlled Apache helicopter, a 1960s Sergeant Pepper dressing up costume, two printed tickets for the Kaiser Chiefs All Together UK Tour and matching ‘wifey’ and ‘hubby’ hooded onesies were also discovered.

Shakila Ahmed, Travelodge spokeswoman, said: “With nearly 19 million customers annually staying at our 580 UK Travelodge hotels, including our three hotels in Bournemouth, for thousands of different reasons, we do get a range of interesting items left behind.

“During 2022, this included a 5ft Chinese temple birdhouse, a Yamaha Sea Scooter and a remote controlled Apache helicopter.”

At Travelodge hotels elsewhere across the country, items left included a barristers wig and gown, a 50-year-old Padding Bear, £250,000 worth of share certificates and a Liverpool Football Club-themed five-tier wedding cake.

The most popular items left behind included chargers for mobile phones and electronic devices, mobile phones, tablets and Kindles, smart watches and teddy bears.

All items left behind in Travelodge hotels which have not been claimed within three months, are donated to the local British Heart Foundation Charity Shops, Travelodge’s nominated charity partner.
