A CONCERNED father has spoken out on the “appalling” conditions of a Poole car park following an incident involving his 16-year-old daughter.

James Burry described how his daughter slipped and fell on the stairs in the Dolphin Shopping Centre car park, before landing in a pile of used needles, faeces, and urine.

The incident, which occurred on New Year’s Eve, has left the father pleading to BCP Council to address the “extremely unsafe” stairs, and “disgusting” littering.

Mr Burry said: “The stairs are not safe. They are slippery. They should be nonslip.

“My daughter slipped, went down, and banged her back. To protect herself she put her hand out and doing this she put her hand in used needles and a puddle of urine and faeces."

Mr Burry also said the stairs were wet, but without a wet floor sign, and the car park lifts were out of service.

He said: “This is appalling and a breach of health and safety. The carpark should not be in use.”

Now, Mr Burry is calling for the council, who own the car park, to respond and improve its condition.

He said: “There’s no cleaner on site. It’s just disgusting in there - absolutely filthy.

“And they could put cameras, or on-site security, or lock it up at night to stop the anti-social behaviour, but they don’t do it.

“They should have just done something about it straight away.”

The incident was reported to BCP Council, who say they have responded to the father directly.

A spokesperson for the local authority said: “We are sorry to hear of this incident in our car park. The family have contacted us with their concerns and we are engaging with them.

“The council carries out regular cleansing rounds in all town centre car parks including stairwells and our lifts are tested on a daily basis and any faults are immediately reported for repair.

“Any residents using our car parks that see uncleanliness can report this directly to our team using any of the help points or by calling our office on 01202 128900.”
