ROADWORKS are set to cause further delays for motorists in Christchurch.

An end date is yet to be confirmed for emergency works taking place along the A35 at both Iford Bridge and Barrack Road.

Four-way traffic lights remain at Iford Roundabout while SGN carry out repairs to a “major gas leak”.

The utility company say specialist equipment, which is required for a permanent repair, will not be delivered to the site until Wednesday, January 11.

Online traffic information service One Network said the traffic lights could be in place until January 20.

SGN have been unable to confirm an end date for the works but say they will continue to monitor the site until the specialist equipment arrives.

The company is also carrying out emergency works in Barrack Road, where one lane in each direction remains closed between its junctions with Stour Road and the Fountain Roundabout.

The road closures were first implemented at the end of December following a gas leak.

SGN say the leak has now been fixed, but their engineers are continuing work at the site to repair another affected pipe.

A SGN spokesperson said: “We’re hopeful of completing this work soon, but we cannot say how long it is likely to take to make the required network repairs and restore the road surface to its original condition.

"We appreciate that roadworks can be frustrating, and we want to thank road users and the community for their patience while we carry out this essential work.”
