SLEET or snow could be seen next week with the arrival of a new cold spell.
Temperatures are set to plunge between 4C and 6C with daytime temperatures starting to fall below average from Sunday onwards.
Bournemouth-based weather enthusiast Dorset Snow said: “On Tuesday and Wednesday we will see the peak of the cold snap with widespread air frosts likely by night and highs in low single figures by day.
Wintry showers are possible as soon as the early hours of Sunday across hills in the west of the region, but the proper snow conductive air doesn’t arrive until Monday.

I can’t see any major snow event occurring next week, but I suspect there will be some snow showers around. pic.twitter.com/hJFXUUs90R
“The shower risk will also increase during the middle of next week as a more unstable airflow develops.
“This means there will be a higher risk of more widespread sleet and snow showers falling just about anywhere.”
The cold spell comes after wet and mild conditions from the Atlantic which has dominated the weather this month.
A polar maritime air mass will usher in colder conditions across the UK as colder air from the north west sets in in what Dorset Snow said will be a “major change in pattern”.
However, the cold spell will be fairly short-lived.
Looking ahead to the end of next week, he said: “By next weekend it is expected to become milder again with more settled conditions finally developing.”
