A WELL-known pub in Poole has been fully re-opened following the arrival of new landlords.

Marie Stockley and Tony Jones have taken over the running of The Blue Boar, seeing it’s ground level back open for punters.

The previous owners had closed the main pub space back in August of last year, limiting service to the downstairs cellar area.

Marie said: “They closed the main pub back in August- they wanted to focus on the cellar bar.

“We took over on Monday, January 9, and re-opened the main bar on the Friday, with a push.”

The new landlords say they were “pleased” to have a busy re-opening on Friday, which saw many old regulars return.

Marie added: “I was born in Poole, and grew up in Poole, and The Blue Boar is one of the nicest looking pubs around.

"I think all the locals had gone off to other pubs, but once we’d advertised it and said we were open, a lot of them came back and thanked us for re-opening and said they’d be back.”

With the main pub area back in service, Marie and Tony will also continue to run the cellar bar- known as the Merchants Cellar, and Poole’s ‘best kept secret’.

The bar is located downstairs in the 18th century vaulted cellar, a dimly lit and ‘truly unique’ space with seating and old oak barrels.

Visitors can choose from a selection of more than 200 wines, and a range of cocktails produced by an in-house mixologist.

There is also a food menu available in the cellar, offering cheeses, charcuterie and seafood, as well as vegetarian and vegan options.

While food is not yet available in the main pub area, Marie and Tony do have plans to introduce it very shortly.

They are also hiring out the third floor for functions, allowing parties and groups to make use of the space, and its private bar and bathrooms.

The Blue Boar is located at 29 Market Close in Poole.
