VISITING hours have been updated at University Hospitals Dorset as nurses begin two days of strike action.
Those visiting people in general wards at Poole and Royal Bournemouth hospitals will be able to do so between 10am and 8pm.
A national nurses' strike is taking place for two days on Wednesday, January 18 and Thursday, January 19.
In a statement posted on the UHD website says: “Members of the RCN are taking industrial action on 18 and 19 January.
"While we will continue to run as many services as possible, our hospitals will be running on reduced staffing levels agreed with the RCN.
“Some appointments due to take place on these dates are being rearranged - please look out for calls from our hospitals. If you do not hear from us, please attend as planned.”
People have been told there may be delays in responding to phone calls or the door as staff “prioritise safe patient care”.
A spokesperson for UHD said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding.
“If you wish to help your loved one at mealtimes or with any personal care, please do so - just let a member of the ward team know.”
During the next two days, there will be picket lines outside Poole Hospital and Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
Strike action will take place between 7.30am and 7.30pm.
A statement on the Royal College of Nursing website says: “As a member of the RCN employed at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust, you have the right to be part of lawful strike action and withdraw your labour.
It continues: “If you are not scheduled to work on the day of strike action, you can still attend the picket line to support your colleagues.
“Members of the public will be able to show their support for striking nursing staff by visiting picket lines.”
