A MAJOR rockfall has taken place near a beach in west Dorset.
The fall at East Beach, West Bay near Bridport comes just days after authorities warned that rockfalls were likely after heavy rainfall across the region.
Dorset Council said: "We've had another big rockfall on East Beach at West Bay. The beach is currently cut off, with no access to Burton Bradstock from West Bay and vice versa.
"We're investigating access to the coastal path on top too. Please avoid the area, especially near the cliff base and edge."
The Jurassic Coast in west Dorset has seen an increased number of rockfalls in recent times.
Last month a rockfall blocked part of the beach on Burton Bradstock prompting a warning from Dorset Council to follow the signs and safety messages that are provided.
At the time a Dorset Council spokesman said: "Rockfalls can, and do, happen at any time. The Jurassic Coast looks the way it does because of erosion - meaning it is always on the move.
"The Jurassic Coast is a wonderful place to visit, but it's important to use common sense and caution – stay away from the edge and base of cliffs and always pay attention to warning signs and safety messages."
More to follow.
