NORMAL service will finally be resumed on Twin Sails Bridge as the troubled structure returns to its normal schedule.

The bridge, which connects Holes Bay and Hamworthy, will resume its usual lifting schedule from tomorrow morning (Tuesday, January 24).

A reduced lifting schedule was in operation over weekend and into Monday after the £37m bridge suffered a break to a mast on the morning of January 16.

As reported, an emergency stop was carried out by crews conducting repair works on the bridge, causing part of the mast to snap. Investigations led engineers to find an “underlying hydraulic fault” with the structure.

A phased reopening followed for pedestrian and finally vehicle access, while safety checks continued.

Following extensive investigations, a BCP Council spokesperson said: “We have completed all our checks and, after monitoring over the weekend, can confirm that we will recommence the normal lifting schedule tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.”
