A RAPIDLY expanding café/bar group says it looks forward to welcoming residents in the heart of Wimborne as an opening date is revealed.

National operator Loungers UK will open its newest site in the former TSB branch at 4-5 The Square on Wednesday, April 12 after being given the green light by the local authority.

As reported, Dorset Council’s licensing sub-committee granted a premises licence for Loungers in September last year following a spirited debate between operator representatives and residents concerned about increased noise and disturbances.

Loungers solicitor Robert Botkai said of the £1million plans: “The nature of the operation will not disturb residents. We ask to be given the opportunity. The risk is ours.”

Among those in favour of the plans was resident Jackie Trowbridge, who said: “Young people need it. Old people (like myself) will be in bed so how could it annoy them?

“The Square is the place go meet and sit.”

The new site, called Piazzo Lounge, will join the more than 170 Loungers bars across the UK – including existing sites in Westbourne, Winton, Christchurch, Poole and Ringwood.

Loungers will transform the interior of the Grade II listed building into a retro-inspired family friendly establishment, with heavily patterned wallpapers, tiling, stripped wooden floors, alongside oversized vintage sofas, upholstered lounge chairs, eclectic artwork and statement wall and pendant lighting.

Particular attention will be paid to families with a selection of games, books, colouring pencils and pads on offer. A full menu, highchairs and baby-changing facilities will also be available for children.

Gemma Irwin, community manager at Loungers, said: “We are delighted to be bringing Loungers to Wimborne Minster. Our Lounges strive to put community at the heart of hospitality and our teams always go the extra mile to make a difference.

“They are actively encouraged to connect with their communities by working with local groups, charities, organisations and businesses that are at the heart of the fabric of local life. We are very much looking forward to welcoming local residents to Piazzo Lounge.”

Piazzo Lounge will create approximately 26 jobs, with a range of front- and back-of-house roles currently available. Visit thelounges.co.uk/jobs for more information.
