A WOMAN who lost her brother to bowel cancer has organised a charity concert in his memory.
Sue Thomas is hosting a ten-hour long music event in Bournemouth to raise awareness and funds for Bowel Cancer UK.
It follows the death of her brother, Lee Jeans, who passed away in March last year aged 51.
The loss was described as a “huge shock” by Sue, having come just months after his diagnosis.
Sue said: “Lee left it too late, which most men do.
“Early diagnosis is essential and for our family member it was too late despite urgent Chemotherapy treatment at Poole.
“Nobody talks about bowel cancer, but it’s on the increase.”
Sue hopes that her music event will celebrate the life of her brother, whilst raising important funds.
She said: “We are so very proud of Lee as he showed such bravery and courage despite his devastating diagnosis.
"We want to raise awareness, to raise some cash, and to let people have fun via music- Lee loved to play the guitar and he would have loved this live music event.
The music event is due to take place at the Russell Court Hotel in Bournemouth on February 17.
It will run between 2pm and midnight, and feature a blues jam, where any musicians can take to the stage, and performances from The Land Girls, and Sue herself.
Sue said: "As a blues vocalist myself, I know lots of musicians and friends who can help- I am so so grateful for them."
Those who want to attend have been asked to donate £6 to Susan’s Just Giving page for Bowel Cancer UK ahead of the day.
But this is not expected to be the only music event organised in Lee’s memory.
Sue said: “In his last days though Bowel Cancer UK was a great support to us and I'm looking to raise £1000 pounds to start the process of fundraising long term for this charity.
"This is one of many music events I hope to stage for Bowel Cancer UK in his memory."
