PLANS have been tabled for a casino gaming centre to replace empty units in Poole’s Dolphin Shopping Centre.
J Holland and Sons Ltd, trading as Trident Gaming, has applied to open an adult slot machine gaming centre in two empty commercial units fronting Poole Bus Station, to complement an existing site in Bournemouth.
The proposed business, called Trident Casino Slots, would cater for members of the public aged 18 and over with a mix of gambling and gaming machines. While the machines would not give cash prizes, tickets can be exchanged for monetary prizes.
According to the applicant, the lack of cash prizes “reduces the need to store cash on site which safeguards against crime”.
In the recently submitted application, planners Pure Town Planning said: “The proposed adult gaming centre would occupy two vacant units in an area which is struggling to fill empty shop units. As such, the proposed adult gaming centre would contribute towards the vibrancy and vitality of the Dolphin Centre and the bus station area, offering a wider range of services and facilities for the public.”

Four full time and two part time jobs would be created as a result of the venture and the site would need to be staffed by at least three people during opening hours.
J Holland & Sons own a chain of similar adult gaming centres across the UK, including an existing site in Bournemouth’s Old Christchurch Road in the former RBS branch.
The Bournemouth site operates from 10am to 10pm every day.
Planners added: “[The applicant has] an established business structure which ensures the site will be properly managed and the refurbishment carried out to a high standard.
“Overall, the proposed use will bring a vacant unit in a town centre location back into a viable use, providing significant public benefits of employment, increased footfall and providing a wet weather attraction for visitors and locals.”
Poole High Street is already home to already established and long standing slot machine gaming centre, Admiral, which itself replaced Quicksilver.
The application is live on BCP Council’s planning portal and no objections have yet been filed.
