A WELL-known pub in Poole is set to reopen with the arrival of new landlords.
The Rope & Anchor in Sarum Street will be opening its doors on Friday, February 3, with an official launch party being hosted the following night.
The pub was due to reopen in December last year under different tenants, but they had pulled out at the last minute due to personal circumstances.
Now, the keys have been handed over to Ruth Truslove and Lee Sawyer - a couple determined to reclaim The Rope & Anchor’s place in the town.
Ruth said: “We want to make this the heart of the community for our locals, while appealing to the summer trade and holidaymakers as they come through.
“We’re both really personable people. We want people to come and feel welcome.
“We’re running it as quite a small team, so there’s not going to this massive flow of staff.
“We just want a small, family team that locals can come in and get to know.”
The new landlords have revealed visions of a ‘gastropub’ for The Rope & Anchor, with a focus on high quality food.
While the pub will not be serving food until the arrival of their new chef on February 10, Ruth and Lee are already set on the type of dishes they want to serve.
Ruth said: “We’re coming up with a new menu. We’re hoping to do some good seafood, and cracking Sunday roasts, using local produce where we can, and having a menu that caters for everybody.
"We want good, home cooked, fresh food - that’s our vision.
“We’re really excited about the chef that’s joining us.”
Lee, who will also be working in the kitchen, put emphasis on their plans for ‘great’ roast dinners every Sunday.
He said: “It would appear, from what we’ve seen on social media, that there was a really good reputation for the food here, especially the roasts. People have been asking us, ‘are you bringing the roast back?’
“On Sundays, we’re planning on just doing just roasts between 12pm and 5pm so we can concentrate on them completely.”
The Rope & Anchor will open at 12pm on Friday, February 3.
A launch party will be held on Saturday, February 4, and will feature music from Jim Etherington, an old favourite for the pub.
