A SPEED limit reduction has been proposed for a stretch of main road as part of "active travel" plans.

BCP Council is asking for consultation feedback over plans to reduce a section of the A348 Ringwood Road linking Bournemouth and Ferndown from 40mph to 30mph.

The proposed stretch covers a point 250 metres northeast of the Bear Cross Roundabout up to Longham Bridge near the Bridge House Hotel.

According to the council, the proposed traffic order is “to secure the expeditious, convenient and safe movement of vehicular and other traffic including pedestrians”.

The following reasons were cited:

  • To deliver a series of pedestrian and cycle improvements on the Bournemouth corridor of Ringwood Road
  • Avoiding danger to persons or other traffic using the road
  • Facilitating the passage on the road or any other road of any class of traffic (including pedestrians)
  • Preserving or improving amenities of the area through which the road runs

Work in and around Ringwood Road is part of the ongoing Transforming Cites Fund scheme linking Poole town centre to/from Ferndown and Wimborne.

The traffic order consultation on the speed reduction plan is open until February 24.
