WARD councillors have called on the public to report anything suspicious as Poole police investigate two cat killings which they believe are linked.

Canford Heath councillor Sean Gabriel called the incidents “evil” and encouraged residents to report any information to the police.

Cllr Sandra Moore said they were “horrible killings”, and that anyone could report anything to her if they did not want to speak directly to the police.

Poole Neighbourhood Policing Team believe that the two deaths and a third incident where a cat was injured last year are part of a series.

The first cat went missing last August from Hythe Road, before returning alive in October, with similar “disturbing” injuries to the two cats found dead last month.

One cat was found in Chaldon Road, where it lived, on January 4, and the other was found on January 12 on Yarrow Road.

Officers’ working assumption is that a human was likely involved in each incident, based on assessment by vets.

Cllr Gabriel encouraged anyone to report anything suspicious, no matter how small, and to check their CCTV cameras for any footage.

“They may think it’s only a little thing but when the police add it up to a bigger picture it may lead to someone getting caught and apprehended,” Cllr Gabriel said.

“I just feel very sorry for the owners of the cats that have been affected.”

Cllr Moore said that anyone who did not want to go directly to the police could report any information to her.

“I’ve got a cat myself and I’ve been liaising with the police. A sergeant at Poole police was taking an interest in this case, and she has been working on it,” Cllr Moore said.

“Everyone’s being asked to report in any incidents that they think relevant.

“But some people don’t like to report them directly to the police, and I’ve offered to be a go-between so they can tell me and then I’ll report it into the police.”

Cllr Gabriel added: “It’s not a reflection on Canford Heath, the actions of potentially one individual, but the community needs to come together and report any concerns because it’s shocking behaviour.

“How can anyone be so evil to do that to defenceless animals, it’s unbelievable.”
