WE’RE already into the final full week of February.
The weekend saw grey weather on Saturday followed by glorious sunshine on Sunday with temperatures reaching a very pleasant 13C.
As reported last week, the Met Office said a Sudden Stratospheric Warming (SSW) is expected to take place over the coming days.
The weather service said it would not be known how the weather event would affect the UK until the end of February of beginning of March.
An SSW caused the Beast from the East in 2018 which brought heavy snow to Dorset.
Speaking last week, Bournemouth-based weather enthusiast UK Extreme Weather said: “Expectations of a Beast from the east should be mellowed, the 2018 SSW event was much stronger and prolonged than this event and it also caused a split of the stratospheric Polar Vortex (SPV), whereas this event looks to just be a displacement of the SPV, still a significant event though.
“Somewhere in the mid latitudes will turn very cold, it all depends where the blocking patterns setup.”
Here’s what the current Met Office forecast has in store for this week.
