BCP Council has voted to put up its share of council tax by 4.99 per cent – the maximum allowed by government without triggering a referendum.

That means the council’s share of the final bill will come to £1,603.23 for a Band D property, taken by government as the benchmark for council tax bills.

Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner has already increased his share of the council tax by 5.65 per cent to £280.58.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Authority has already raised its share of the bill by 6.29 per cent to £84.43.

When the rises imposed by BCP Council, the police and crime commissioner and the fire authority are added together, the rise comes to 5.13 per cent.

Residents of Christchurch also need to add the charges levied by either Christchurch Town Council (up 5.3 per cent to £45.68), Burton Parish Council (up 8.18 per cent to £15.74), Hurn Parish Council (up 9.05 per cent to £32.42) and or Highcliffe and Walkford Parish Council (down 7.91 per cent to £22.82).

Bournemouth residents need to add the levy of the Bournemouth Charter Trustees who run the town’s mayoralty (down 1.73 per cent to £2.27), while those living in Throop and Holdenhurst will also pay a charge to its parish council (up 18.89 per cent to £40.10).

Poole residents only need to add the charge to the Poole Charter Trustees, unchanged at £2.14.
