VEHICLE manufacturing giant Toyota looks set to open a brand-new showroom on empty land near Tower Park.
A planning application submitted by Snows Motor Group reveals plans for a Toyota/Lexus sales and showroom on 1.4 hectares of grassland in Yarrow Road, Poole.
If approved, it would become the first Toyota showroom in Poole and the second for Lexus – after an existing site in West Quay Road.
The development legislates for site clearance and the construction of a car sales and display showroom building, an associated external vehicle sales and display area, car parking and electric vehicle charging points.
Located between a Volkswagen Breeze Van centre and Titan Storage Solutions, the last known use of the site was for vehicle storage but it has no record of commercial use since historical ordnance survey maps were first carried out in the 1880s.
With a main building footprint of 1433m2, the ground floor layout includes a showroom each for Toyota and Lexus with associated administration and ancillary spaces. The mezzanine floor layout includes a further two separate administration spaces and associated ancillary space.
There are 26 car parking spaces identified for customers.
A spokesperson for Gillings Planning, on behalf of Snows Motor Group, said: “The proposal will bring forward an allocated employment site enabled to provide commercial floor space and local jobs in the area. The new facility will benefit from good high-quality customer showrooms, staff workshops and admin facilities and will allow the site to contribute to the local economy.
“The proposal comprises a well-designed and high-quality building, which is of a scale that responds to the surrounding area and respects the layouts of neighbouring commercial uses.
“Investment in the site and building by Snows Motor Group represents a significant commitment to the Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch area.”
According to planners, around 32 long-term jobs will be associated with the car sales and display showroom.
Southampton-based Snows Motor Group currently has 52 franchised dealerships across south and south west England – including a SEAT showroom in Hamworthy.
No objections have yet been submitted over the proposals which are still live on BCP Council’s online planning portal.
