A BOY from Charminster has raised £300 by selling his toys to raise funds for the Turkey-Syria earthquake appeal.

Arthur Cadwell, aged nine, watched the devastating news coverage of the earthquake  and decided that he wanted to do something to help.

He found toys he didn’t use anymore that he could sell to raise money for the Disasters Emergency Committee.

“He was really shocked and made up by what he managed to achieve, he’s really proud of himself,” said Sam, Arthur’s dad.

Arthur labelled all the toys with prices himself and even created his own sign to display, before heading to the family's beach hut in Southbourne to put on the sale.

Hayley, Arthur’s mum, then spread the word online through various local Facebook groups.

Arthur managed to raise £240 from his toy sale, with gift aid bumping it up to £300, all sent to the Disasters Emergency Committee.

Sam praised the kindness and generosity of locals.

He said: “Most people didn’t want their change, they gave him £5 for a £1 toy, people were really generous.”

He added: “We’re really proud of him, the fact that he did it off his own back and decided that that’s what he wanted to do, it was quite something.”
