ANOTHER high street bank is to close its doors this summer – exactly one week after another in a nearby town.

Barclays has announced its branch in Lymington High Street will cease operations on Thursday, June 15, due to the “big impact” online banking has had on the number of branch customers.

This comes after the news Barclays in Ringwood would close on June 8 – again due to dwindling users.

According to Barclays, fewer than 10 customers used the Lymington branch regularly as the only way to do their banking – nine per cent of whom had used other branches in the last 12 months.

Eighty nine per cent of people who use the branch have also banked using the app, online and by phone in 2021.

Once the Ringwood and Lymington branches close, Barclays says the nearest branches for customers to use will be located in Bournemouth – specifically Castlepoint and Old Christchurch Road.

A bank spokesperson said: “We’ll be working with the local community to understand the impact of closing this branch. Once we’ve gathered feedback, we’ll publish the results in a booklet called Branch Closure Feedback.”

The company says it will still retain a banking presence in Ringwood via its Barclays Local service which offers pop-up sites. No mention of such a provision for Lymington was mentioned.
