RESIDENTS of a road in Poole had to rescue a car after it ended up in a “huge” sinkhole.
A sinkhole appeared in Courtenay Road, Poole, on Tuesday, March 14 after a car drove over it as it was reversing out of a driveway.
Helpful neighbours stepped in to help the woman, whose Skoda Fabia's front wheel became stuck in the sinkhole.
Chris, who lives in Courtenay Road, said: “I was reversing my car out because I wanted to turn it around and reverse it in backwards to clear out the garage.
“I got out and I tried moving forward and I thought ‘I’m not moving’. I wondered whether I was in the right gear or I had a flat tyre.
“Two guys in the road got a long plank of fairly sturdy wood and some blocks and they were levering it up. It then got up far enough for them to lift it more onto the wood and then a guy drove it off.”
Chris said she thought the sinkhole was “quite deep, probably caused by a collapsed sewer” and that her car was undamaged.
The hole, which is approximately one metre deep and one metre wide, was reported to the council and workmen soon arrived with a lorry and some cones and assessed the situation.
A BCP Council spokesperson said: “The reported sink hole in Courtenay Road, Poole has been attended by one of our crews. The site is now barriered off, pending investigation. Once this has concluded, repairs will take place.”
“Pot holes and other highway issues can be reported via the BCP Council website Potholes, damaged roads or footpaths (bcpcouncil.gov.uk).”
